The Jouhikko is a traditional lyre with 2 to 4 strings, originating from Finland, Sweden, and Estonia. Also known as the jouhikantele, its name is derived from the bowed kantele. The strings of a Jouhikko can be crafted from materials such as horsehair, sheep gut, or nylon. These instruments are available in various sizes, ranging from soprano to bass, and are played with a bow.

This particular professional alto-sized Jouhikko is crafted from mahogany with a spruce top. It features maple tuning pegs and bridge, and a tailpiece made from wenge. The instrument is strung with straight black nylon strings and comes with a bow strung with horsehair.
