The Jouhikko, also known as the bowed lyre, is a traditional stringed instrument originating from Finland, Sweden, and Estonia. Typically featuring 2 to 4 strings, it is sometimes referred to as the jouhikantele, a name that reflects its connection to the bowed kantele. The strings of the Jouhikko can be crafted from various materials, including horsehair, sheep gut, or nylon, allowing for a range of tonal qualities. These instruments are available in different sizes, catering to various musical needs from soprano to bass.

This particular professional-grade Jouhikko boasts a body made from high-quality mahogany, soundboard from aged pine, while the handles are crafted from black alder for enhanced durability and aesthetics. The tuning pegs are fashioned from maple, and the end piece is made of striking flaming birch, complete with fine tuners for precise adjustments. The instrument is strung with straight nylon strings, ensuring a clear and resonant sound.
